James McManus: Born March 22, 1951

James McManus is the author of several non fiction books, but the one that put him on the map was  Positively Fifth Street: Murderers, Cheetahs, and Binion’s World Series of Poker
In this book McManus writes a memoir, true crime and poker strategy primer in an intricate, funny and interesting way.   Mcmanus sent to Vegas by Harper’s to cover a story on women in the World Series of Poker tournament arrives in Vegas durring the final stretches of the Binion murder trial.  Using his advance from Harper’s to enter a satellite poker game, He somehow ends up at the final WSOP table taking 5th Place and over a quarter of a million dollars in prize money.  Throughout the book McManus shares the basic poker strategies which he learned from reading books T.J. Coutier and Doyle Brunson.  The Audio version of this book is highly recomended, and is probably one of the best ways for anyone wanting to learn more about Poker, its history and techniques to actually learn the game.  all the while enjoying one of the most interesting true crime stories in American history.
